‘Mixerworks’
To launch Xbox’s new interactive live stream platform Mixer, we decided to do it with a bang - literally. We dreamt up an interactive fireworks display completely controlled by the user. Teaming up with director Brig White and Tool of North America, we held a livestream event on launch day from a dry desert lakebed with 11 waves of firework.
Using Mixer’s built-in interactive control panel, users could vote on the fireworks size, shape and color using their sparks (Mixer’s online currency). As they did, we displayed their gamertags and contributions across a real-time ticker at the top of the livestream. Our two hosts, including mega influencer Chloe Dykstra, ran the show from the ground and interacted live with fans via the Mixer chat.
Our original goal was to hit 1M sparks contributed, but we surpassed that with a total of 4.3 million sparks given by the Mixer community. The livestream proved so popular that Mixer’s servers actually crashed momentarily during the broadcast.
